The balloon theory of bank fraud

This report about the biggest ID theft bust in history not only demonstrates the scale and scope of ID theft – ID theft is a global business – it also proves once again the balloon theory of any fraud.

The ID thieves used stolen credit card data from magnetic stripe cards – as opposed to more recently developed and more secure chip and pin cards – to steal $13m.  As technology made most cards safer, it made those who lagged technological developments more vulnerable because they became the easier target.
